The South Shore Kitchen is a personal recipe archive. It’s a static website—meaning there’s no login, no commenting system, and no user accounts. Because of that, we collect almost nothing.

What we collect

If you just browse the site: nothing. We don’t use analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising scripts. We don’t set cookies. There is no comment form, no newsletter signup, and no account to create.

If you email us a recipe or a question: we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. That’s it. We keep it only as long as we need it to reply, and we don’t share it with anyone.

Hosting and server logs

This site is hosted by IONOS. Like any web host, IONOS automatically collects some technical information to keep the site running smoothly and securely. According to IONOS, this data is anonymized as soon as it is collected and includes:

  • The website you visited before ours (the “referrer”)
  • The page or file you requested
  • Your browser type and version, operating system, and device type
  • The time of your access
  • Your IP address in anonymized form (used only to determine your general location)

IONOS uses this data only to ensure the security and stability of the site, and it is stored for 8 weeks. It is not shared with third parties and is not transferred outside the EU.

Photos and metadata

If you email us a photo, note that phone photos often carry hidden metadata (like GPS location). We don’t publish reader-submitted photos by default—if we make your recipe, we take our own picture. So in practice, your photo won’t end up on the site unless we specifically ask and you specifically say yes.

Embedded content

Some recipes might link out to or embed content from other sites (a video, for example). Those sites may collect data about you the same way they would if you visited them directly. We don’t control that, and we don’t get any of that data.

Who we share data with

Nobody. We don’t sell, trade, or share email addresses or anything else. There’s no mailing list, no advertising partner, and no third-party service plugged into this site. IONOS does not pass your data to third parties.

Your rights

Since we don’t store anything about you beyond an email in our inbox, there’s not much to request. But if you’ve emailed us and want that email deleted, just ask and we’ll remove it.
